Sustainable IFUSCO

Sustainability and environmental protection is one of the main themes of this year's IFUSCO conference. In practice, this means that during the conference we will try to minimise the usage of paper and plastic (for example, we will not print out abstract books, we will try to use QR codes and websites for communication rather than paper) and we will try to facilitate the use of public transport for participants in Budapest.

Here are a few tips for a sustainable conference (the list is growing!):

  • Tap water in Budapest is perfectly safe and drinkable! It may be worth getting a bottle and refilling it either at the university or at one of the public water points, so you don't need to buy mineral water in plastic bottles. To find out where the public water fountains are located, visit this website: https://www.kozkutak.hu/ This website can also be downloaded as an app on Google Play and the App Store.

  • Fortunately, the university is perfectly accessible by bus, trolleybus, tram, metro and even by bike! To get to know public transport and plan your journey, you'll need Budapest Go, also available to download on Google Play and the App Store. For more information on Budapest Go, see the Budapest-survival kit.

  • The weather is likely to be very good during the conference - it's the perfect opportunity to try out Budapest's community bike system, Bubi! With the Bubi app, you can hire a bike at a low price in many parts of the city. In recent years, Budapest has built several bike lanes, which, although may seem dangerous, have encouraged more and more people to cycle.

  • The café on campus, Műhely, also offers a vegan lunch every day. It's worth a try!
